My Hockey Story

I started playing ice hockey in first grade, but it became truly meaningful to me after watching the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Seeing the speed of the game and how much players relied on one another made me want to take hockey seriously.
From third through sixth grade, I was forced to stop playing due to COVID-19 restrictions. Although it was frustrating to be away from the ice for almost three years, I never lost my interest in the sport. When I entered Rectory School in seventh grade, I finally had the chance to return. Despite concerns about my conditioning after such a long break, I earned a spot on the varsity team through tryouts.
What Hockey Taught Me

Returning after a long break showed me that effort and consistency matter more than natural talent. I often felt behind and had to work harder to keep up, but my teammates’ trust and encouragement pushed me forward.
Hockey taught me how to contribute without trying to stand out, to take responsibility for my role, and to understand that individual performance is strongest when a team works together.
Achievements
- Varsity ice hockey team member for three consecutive years (Grades 7–9)
- Selected as a Best Player on the team in 9th grade
To me, these achievements represent more than skill improvement. They reflect perseverance, responsibility, and the ability to grow within a team after facing setbacks.
